Snipes Farm & Education Center (SFEC) celebrated its 15th anniversary as a nonprofit and raised nearly $20,000 for its Hunger Relief efforts on August 18th at an event that also saw the grand opening of its new Outdoor Learning Pavilion

More than 100 people enjoyed a beautiful summer evening (the first after a long heat wave), live blues jazz guitar, and eminently edible food bites provided by the Market Roost Eatery and Catering in Flemington, NJ.

Libations included a Vodka Bumble made by the Ashlynn Distillery in Morrisville with honey from The Italian Bee @ Snipes as its secret ingredient, as well as craft beer from Bitchin’ Kiten Brewery, also in Morrisville. The Italian Bee houses its more than 30 beehives along the border of a Snipes Farm meadow.

Jonathan Snipes, SFEC executive director, welcomed the crowd with moving remarks about the nonprofit’s hunger relief program, which reaches hundreds of lower-income people weekly throughout the Morrisville, PA, and Trenton, NJ region.

He also showed a video that brought the farm’s hunger relief efforts to life, featuring photographs and videos produced by former SFEC Marketing Director Tyron Perez Daino, a much beloved social media whiz who tragically died of a sudden illness at the age of 36 in late June.

The event also featured large storyboards bringing to life details about SFEC’s hunger relief program, its sustainable organic-farming practices, and its many nature programs and learning stations (including a Nature Trail, bird blind, eco-friendly water runoff retention basin and, most recently, a trail of Bluebird boxes, now home to at least one Bluebird pair).

The $20,000 raised at the event will go towards hunger relief efforts that Snipes Farm & Education Center has been spearheading since its founding as a nonprofit in 2008. Seventy percent of the farm’s organic fruits and vegetables are currently distributed to food pantries, senior centers, housing projects, and homeless shelters in the greater Bucks County, PA, and Trenton, NJ, region.

Throughout the years, SFEC has developed strong distribution partnerships with organizations such as the Bucks County Emergency Shelter, Bucks County senior centers, Interfaith food alliance, Rolling Harvest, RWJ Barnabas Health, Trenton Housing Authority Health Team, and United Way.

The 2023 Feast on the Farm sponsors included Lori Hoppmann, Financial advisor with Edward Jones; The Italian Bee, Capital Health Hospital, PaxChiro of Newton, Provident Bank, and Four Paws Doggies Day Care in Morrisville. SFEC is grateful to all of its sponsors for their generosity in providing $12,000 of the total funds raised.

There is still time to donate to this great cause which supplies fresh produce and berries to local people in need from families to seniors.
