Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Snipes Farm and Education Center!
Volunteers support our small staff on a big mission: to make the community a more healthy and empowered place through sustainable farming and education.
Learn first-hand about sustainable farming practices
Enjoy time spent on an historic and beautiful farm
Help with farming projects and educational programs
Meet other farm and food loving people
Help our organization to have a greater impact in the community
Add your skills, interests and energy and join one (or more) of our volunteer teams. Signing up for a team DOES NOT commit you to any particular task on any particular day. It just gives us a way to communicate information of interest to you more efficiently.
We look forward to working with you! Thank you!
Volunteer Team Descriptions
Please fill out our volunteer form to sign up for one of these teams. If you have any questions or would like more information, contact Melanie Douty-Snipes firstname.lastname@example.org or call 215-295-1138 Ext. 105.
Join us every Saturday morning from June to November from 8-10am to help farmers weed, tend or harvest the crops. There is always great conversation and fellowship and a lot of satisfaction when we get to the end of a row and see our beautiful work!
Our fall events are key fundraisers for our organization. Volunteers can help decorate and set up scare crows, act as docents in our farm museum, give farm tours, help in the orchard or with baking pies. As a volunteer at a Fall event, you will help visitors understand and be inspired by our work and to support our mission.
We are a year-round education center for people of all ages providing farm, environmental and nutrition education programs at schools, community events and at the farm. If you would like to help others to learn about food, farms and the power of nature join this team!
Help with set up, flow and clean up at educational, community building and fundraising events such as Earth Day and Summer Solstice Food Truck Festival.
Other Talent Team
Do you like to paint or fix things, or do you have a passion for marketing or organizing supplies? There are always ways to help to keep things humming along.
High School Service Projects
We are an approved site for high school service projects required for graduation. Join us this spring to complete your hours of service.
Youth Service Learning Opportunities
Scouts and youth groups come to Snipes Farm to learn through helping with service projects year round. Students come to the farm to work towards completion of service hours and scouts come to work for various levels of badge requirements and scout awards (Bronze, Silver, Gold Girl Scout awards and Tenderfoot and Eagle Boy Scout awards).
Examples of past projects:
Helping homeless families make the best use of farm food through easy recipes and food preservation ideas
Building foot bridges and clearing our forest nature trail
Teaching/facilitating projects at our summer camp
Gleaning apples in the orchard for food pantry donations
Helping farmers with special projects!
Planting potato seed on Earth Day or potato harvest in late summer
Bunny Ambassadors in the fall allow the public to meet our bunnies and share fun bunny facts
Onion harvest and trimming
Helping to tend the children’s garden
